An article in the L.A. Times today details the conflict in Israel over the forced eviction of settlers in the territories due to be returned to the Palestinians. The settlers appeal to the Jewishness of the soldiers, asking them to refuse to carry out their orders, and when that fails they call them Nazis. This is the first I'd heard about the practice of writing the ID numbers on the skin so as to mimic the concentration camp tattoos. I must say I find this sickening. Squatters in illegal settlements comparing themselves to victims of Nazi death camps--how fucking exasperating.
