Inspiring Failure

I finished Hand to Mouth: A Chronicle of Early Failure by Paul Auster the other day. As a memoir of a good writer's early struggles it can't help but be a bit inspiring for someone like me. It's a brief read--too brief perhaps, as I found myself wanting to hear the details he left out. There are some good stories here but it's far short of an actual autobiography. The emphasis is mostly on money and it's role in his life as a young adult. Which is a shame cause it's clear that despite being perenially broke he had an awfully interesting life. Hopefully someday he'll tell the whole story.
