walking in L.A.

This is great. This guy walks all over Los Angeles and takes pictures. It's mostly landscape, rarely pretty, often bleak, an urban setting utterly devoid of romance. It made me remember what it felt like to be in L.A. It makes me think of James Ellroy sans the bebop, intrigue and frenetic energy. The guy who took these pictures clearly has an artist's eye and a peculiar perspective. Where are all the people? As you look at the pictures you come to realize how much the environment implies about those who inhabit it, and how much easier it is to realize those implications when the inhabitants are absent.

It also brought to mind the recent news about L.A.'s most prolific serial killer. Turns out nobody really knew there was a serial killer because he killed poor black women, prostitutes who traded sex for money and drugs. The killer was already in jail for rape and a retarded janitor had been wrongly sentenced for three of the murders.
