More London: Muslim Protest

We were in London shortly after the Muhammad cartoon flap. On Saturday morning in Traflagar Square we unexpectedly found ourselves in the middle of a well-organized Muslim protest. Initially it looked like a bit of a dud--too many signs and not enough Muslims to carry them. But over the course of the morning busloads of Muslims arrived and filled the square.

Lord Nelson watches over the protest. There was a clear generational gap in evidence among the Muslims present. Well, among the men anyway. The older Muslim men tended to wear the traditional Islamic clothing of their respective cultures whereas the younger men all looked pretty much like young Brits.
