It's pretty rare that I hear a rock band that excites me these days. But I sure am diggin the Heartless Bastards. They don't do anything fancy--just a simple, tight backdrop for a really strong voice. And man what a voice; and by that I don't mean just showy lungpower, though certainly she has that, but character and the ability to use it in interesting ways. Apt vocal comparisons would be to Janis Joplin and P.J. Harvey I think. Those reviewers who've drawn comparisons to Jimmy Page, Hendrix and Oasis should be subjected to the music critic's licensure review board. Ok, there isn't one, but they should have their driver's licenses revoked as they are too stupid to be operating heavy machinery. But you, you're smart, and you should check this band out.
