Spade Cooley

shame indeed

Readers of James Ellroy will remember Spade Cooley. He was the would-be king of Western Swing but his career was derailed when he beat his wife to death. It was all rather sordid. His death provided a fitting end to his story, as this article in the L.A. Times makes clear. As an Ellroy fan it's always amusing, and perhaps a little depressing, to find out that he's just tellin it like it is.
