heavenly potatoes

So I'm getting to know my new neighborhood a bit. Today I had dinner...well it was my first meal of the day but it was at dinner time so it's dinner, at Chinese Rasoi (Indian Chinese Food Kitchen). After my first meal I am now quite excited that I live so close to Chinese Rasoi (Indian Chinese Food Kitchen). The menu looked interesting: Chinese food cooked "Indian style." The main meat choices are chicken, beef, lamb and goat. I wondered about the conspicious absensce of pork and the availability of goat.

Then I figured it out: Chinese Rasoi (Indian Chinese Food Kitchen) is run by Muslims. I confirmed this by looking at the take-out menu, I'm clever that way, which proudly trumpets: "We use only hand-Zabiha meats." Zabiha refers to meat from an animal slaughtered in accordance with Islamic halal regulations (halal being the Islamic equivalent of Kosher).

It was kind of a fast food setup so I wasn't expecting much, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I didn't eat any meat but damn if I'm not curious to try some "Goat Teriyaki stix." I had "heavenly potatoes" which was taters with cashews, onions and peppers stir-fried in a chili garlic sauce. Very yummy. I got some veggie egg rolls too which were done in South Asian style and had some curry sort of thing going on. I was quite happy that they don't seem afraid to make their food hot. All in all, after a day of having to play reluctant disciplinarian to apathetic nineteen year olds, it was a welcome discovery. When I got home I ate and then made quite a racket. Made me happy to be in the new hood, almost happy enough to forget that my house smells rather like a petri dish.
