I believe I shall have to have a glass of spirituous liquor in honor of this auspicious anniversary:

Tennessee passes nation's first prohibition law
The first Prohibition law in the history of the United States is passed in Tennessee, making it a misdemeanor to sell alcoholic beverages in taverns and stores. The bill stated that all persons convicted of retailing "spirituous liquors" would be fined at the "discretion of the court" and that the fines would be used in support of public schools.

Imagine if we took a portion of the cost of all the alcohol sold in Georgia and gave it to the public schools. Soon the world would speak of the growing technological might and economic influence of China, India and Georgia. We might even have teachers living above the poverty line. Ah, utopian fantasy.
