Take a look at this site: Ghost Town. It is the project of a Russian woman who goes on motorcyle rides through the deserted areas around the nuclear reactor at Chernobyl. It's worth your time to look at the whole site, many of the images are astounding, and her running commentary in broken English fills in some important details. The whole thing feels like some strange and cold J.G. Ballard story or something; the impact of the images builds slowly with each new page.
