The Economist on Atlanta

That very British grandaddy of news magazines, the Economist, now has a city guide to Atlanta on its website. This makes Atlanta one of only five American cities to be featured, and I assume this is indicative of Atlanta's importance as a business center. The Clermont, Fat Matt's and a few other places are mentioned, but a good bit of it did strike me as stereotypical. But the stereotypes are probably rooted in the truth, especially in the world of corporate movers and shakers. Funny, East Atlanta didn't make the guide, though Little 5 Points did earn a mention, amusingly enough under the "shopping" heading. Which, in the end, is probably what all the hipster stuff now amounts to: a different set of products to buy. On a less cynical note, reading about atl made me realize that I like the city more now than I ever have. Considering that I actively despised it for quite some time, especially during the dot.com boom years when everyone went real estate crazy, saying that I like it may not mean much, but it felt like a big step for me. Perhaps we should collectively author our own atl city guide?
