update on the exorcism murder

Here's the lastest word on the Atlanta child exorcism murder from today's AJC. It's pretty fucking grim. And it's sounding more and more like that Frailty movie.
Daughter fought in vain to live

Quimani Carey, 8, fought her father so hard that he had trouble strangling her -- so he asked his wife to help, an Atlanta police investigator testified.

Christopher Carey told police his oldest daughter "had a demon in her" and that he was told to kill her, said Paul Guerrucci, the lead investigator in the case.

Guerrucci, a homicide detective for less than a year, struggled to describe for a judge how Quimani died.

"The child . . ." Guerrucci said as his voice broke. After regaining his composure, he continued, "The child had been brutally killed."

Carey, 29, showed little emotion during the pretrial hearing and stared at the floor.

After hearing the testimony, Fulton County Magistrate Richard Hicks ruled that prosecutors had enough evidence to send murder charges against Carey to a grand jury, and he denied bond. The defendant's wife, Valerie Carey, 27, is also charged with murder but for now remains at a mental health facility.

Quimani's naked body was found Jan. 19 inside Savannah Suites, an extended-stay motel in downtown Atlanta. She had been strangled and stabbed, and her arms and legs had been broken. Pages ripped from a Bible were strewn on and around the body.

Christopher Carey told police he first tried to snap the child's neck, the investigator testified. "He said he stabbed her until the knife broke.

"He said the girl was strong and was fighting and he couldn't kill her, so he asked his wife to help."

Valerie Carey then tried to strangle the girl, the investigator testified.

Christopher Carey killed the girl in front of their other children, a girl, 6, and a boy, 2, Guerrucci said.

The Careys then hoisted the younger children on their shoulders and left the motel. Several people saw the family walking nude down Piedmont Avenue in near freezing cold after midnight.

Police later found the girl's body in their motel room.

The Careys initially refused to acknowledge police as they walked down the street, but both ended up admitting their role in the slaying, Guerrucci said. And Christopher Carey's interview was videotaped.
