some people are not nice

So in the process of researching Dwight York, I inadvertently stumbled into the land of psychotic ideologues. The Southern Poverty Law Center keeps a close eye on all sorts of dangerous kooks and their website is full to the brim with the doings of every group of neo-aryan-nazi-national socialist-odin worshipping-sovereign citizen-Christian identity-skinhead cracker motherfuckers you've ever heard of and many you haven't. My head is just swimming in this depressing shit.

One piece of good news that I was unaware of: William Pierce, author of the Turner Diaries, that notorious piece of neo-nazi literature, is dead. May he rot in hell. His death set off a crisis over succession in the National Alliance. It was resolved but it didn't take long before it developed into an even larger crisis that had every goosestepping halfwit in a hysterical tizzy. But don't get too excited; they may be confused, contentious and often poorly organized, but they are good recruiters. Anywhere there's an angry, disaffected young white kid who's happy to accept easy answers to explain his shitty life, there's a potential recruit. And they thrive in the prison system, where some of them have successfully made the transition from street thugs to organized crime syndicate. Here's a really long piece on prison gangs at the ADL site, who much like the SPLC seem to know more about these groups than they probably know about themselves.

And to top off our tour through the underbelly, 9/11 has made for some strange bedfellows. United in their paranoid hatred of Jews, some of the Nazis now express a begrudging respect for Bin Laden and his ilk. It would seem that some are even converting to Islam, but I'm not going to link to that. If you want to see the really scary stuff, go look for their pages. I need a nap.
